A case study using a phenomenological approach was carried out to determine how effective and enduring learning is for two diverse groups of grade 9 natural science learners when delivered through a collaborative co-teaching approach involving a high school science teacher and a special needs teacher.
Even though the findings of this research indicate that the co-taught sessions did not significantly affect the learners’ test results, the majority of the learners reported very positive perceptions of co-teaching. From the findings the main benefits for the learners included an improvement in their understanding of learning styles and associated study skills, increased contact time with the teachers, and the benefit of another teacher’s expertise in the classroom. The researcher found the co-teaching approach yielded a clearer focus on ...
South Africa needs an economy which is competitive and successful. Therefore, it is
important that an education system will provide a skilled work force. Learners need to
develop biology skills that will equip them for life, enable them to solve problems and think
critically. Unfortunately South Africa is presently encountering a lack of skilled citizens. The
reasons for this most probably is that the biology curriculum is mainly discipline-based,
content-loaded and largely irrelevant, resulting in learners not furthering their studies in
biology and related fields.
The biology matriculation examination has a strangle hold on what is taught. Lengthy,
content-loaded curricula emphasise the memorising of facts by means of expository
teaching methods, leaving little opportunity to teach the application of information and
skills to solve p...
Aquaculture is an activity that has been increasing along the last years. Until the 1970’s Portugal and more specifically the Tagus estuary, was the major exporter of oysters in Europe. Factors like TBT and
oysters gill disease had made that the shellfish aquaculture has never been again practised in Tagus estuary. According to that, this work intends to concept and to implement an ecological model that develops the oysters growth in order to them return to the estuary. To begin with, the model was
calibrated with data from Database of 1980 and then validated with Database of 1982. The model results have shown a good correlation with measured data, so it was supposed as a good model.
After that, it was simulated two different scenarios. The first one it was increased 30C in water temperature and in the second one it was changed the see...
A strategic tool for the LEYP brand was developed and two concepts were developed using the strategic tool.

This thesis discusses the effect of initial particle size and alloying of Pt nanocatalysts on the degradation of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFC). Platinum nanocatalysts with initial particle sizes of 2.2nm, 3.2nm, 5.0nm, 6.7nm and 11.3nm were studied, before and after potential cycling. The two smallest initial particle sizes show significant degradation, while the remainder of the samples show negligible degradation after 10,000 cycles. Among the possible degradation mechanisms operating, the results show that dissolution and re-precipitation is insignificant among all the samples. On the other hand, modified electrochemical Ostwald ripening (MEOR) is the main cause for particle growth and degradation of the Pt nanocatalysts. Moreover, MEOR could also assist the coalescence of particles. Thus, controlling the Pt dissolutio...
