This diploma thesis is dealing with the statistical basics of scientific research in the field of Notational Analysis in soccer. Based on definitions of soccer specific terms the relevance and necessity of the systematic match analysis in soccer is pointed out afterwards. Out of 39 articles in five different ISI-ranked professional journals the essential issues of the investigated studies have been worked out and the appearing statistic methods have been critically observed. Furthermore the different approaches for the determination of the optimal survey sample size (minimum number of needed matches) are shown. For clearer understanding and easier comprehensibility of the analysed articles, the most popular descriptive as well as inferential test procedures are explained in advance.
